Three separate gun related incidents in Grand Island over the weekend
(Grand Island, NE) - The Grand Island Police Department has released details on three separate gun/shooting incidents that took place on the new years weekend.
The first call was placed on new years day. The time of the incident was not listed on the official police report. Officers responded to the 800 block of West John for two gunshots fired into a residence. No suspects are known at this time.
The second incident occurred on Sunday, January 2nd at 2:24 am at 415 Cherry Street. Officers were dispatched in reference of gunshots. A neighbor reported hearing a single gunshot coming from near the stairs. The reporting party looked outside and saw one person standing near where the gunshot came from. This male was identified as Dap Dap. Dap was reported to have been involved in an argument with another male and then fired a shot. The two males then went inside the apartment, where a neighbor reported to hear a second shot. A spend shell casing was found on the ground near the stairs. Officers arrived and contacted Dap on the stars of the apartments and ordered him to show his hands and walk towards officers. Dap would refuse to comply, putting his hands in his pants and refusing to follow directions from officers. Dap was eventually placed in handcuffs. A search warrant was executed at this residence and another spent shell casing was found on the living room floor, as well as a hole in the ceiling. Dap was then arrested for Obstruction, Use of a Firearm to Commit a Felony, Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person, and Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm. Dap was convicted of a felony (Accessory to Class 2 or 2A Felony) in Douglas County in 2021.
The third encounter happened on Sunday night, January 2nd. GIPD was called to 579 East Capital Avenue at 10:30 pm. The call would reference a medical call for a gunshot wound victim. The victim was involved in a mutual fight then sustained a single gunshot wound to the shoulder. He was transported by EMS and treated at St Francis Medical Center. Due to the victim being uncooperative, the location of the incident and the identity of the suspect is unknown at this time.
